Senior Rangers Drop Second on the Trot in loss to Warriors, Slide to Third

It was billed as the match of the round, the deepest of GV rivalries – Rangers vs Warriors. Coming off the league bye, the two teams were sitting second and third on the GV table, with the winner likely to hold the advantage on the home stretch to secure a top two finish.

Much like the first encounter in Week 2 of the season, the match commenced as a defensive struggle. Shane Hardy set the tone on the first play from scrimmage with a solo sack on the Warriors QB, and the defence recorded their first or two 3-and-out series of the day. The Rangers offense started in a similar manner, and four plays later, the Rangers were punting and the field position game had commenced.

Rangers Get Season Back on Track with Win Over Oldest Rival

The Croydon Rangers knew the opening to their season was going to challenging with matches against last years two VicBowl contenders in first two rounds of the season. Following a disappointing home loss in the season opener, the Rangers turned their attention to the 2016 champion Monash Warriors, trying to avoid dropping to an 0-2 start.

In incredibly windy conditions, both teams looked to the run game to move the ball, with the wind wreaking havoc on the passing game of both teams early. The Warriors started stronger, with Australian RB Luke Jackson pounding the ball along the ground. The Warriors secured a converted touchdown on their opening drive, and signs looked ominous for the Rangers.

Rangers win 4 straight defeating the Warriors

The Croydon Rangers have won 4 in a row, vanquishing their arch nemesis Monash Warriors 21-14 at home in a replay of their Vic Bowl showdown last year.

In the opening offensive play barely 10 seconds into the match, quarterback Jamie Stafford hit rookie Johnny “Football” Tanuvasa over the middle who raced 56 yards for the touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.
