The Corydon Rangers Gridiron Club are excited to announce the appointment of Mel Martin as the Rangers senior team Head Coach for the 2017 & 2018 seasons.
Following an extensive search for a replacement to fill the role held by Richard Garraway the last three years, as he heads off to coach the Victoria Eagles state team, the Rangers committee were left in no doubt that Coach Martin was the perfect choice.
The appointment of Coach Martin is a departure from the recent Croydon Rangers coaching appointments, with the first coach appointed from outside of the Club since the turn of the century. The Club welcomes the new knowledge, thought processes and experience that this appointment will bring.

A big Gridiron Victoria senior season culminated last Sunday with the playing of VicBowl XXXII and Division 2 Championship VI at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park. In what is undoubtedly the best stadium used for the league’s showcase event since the early ‘90s when the match was played at Olympic Park, the weather managed to hold of mercifully for the curtain raiser – but would not be so kind for main event.
The Woodford Sport Science Consulting Croydon Rangers Gridiron Club congratulates the Monash Warriors in defeating the Western Crusaders 16-12 to take another Vic Bowl and the Pakenham Silverbacks for their comprehensive victory over the Northern Raiders 43-8.
The day also included the presentation of the GV Senior league awards, of which there were many Croydon Rangers Hawthorn Hotel senior team members acknowledged:
After a difficult two weeks, the Croydon Rangers have finally got a win in August, defeating the South Eastern Predators 34-14 at home on Saturday.
Having reached mid-season atop the standings, the ensuring weeks saw a heavy defeat followed by a tough draw. In their final game for 2016 at Croydon, the team got their title defense back in track with the business-like win ahead of a two week break.
