A mixed day for the Croydon Rangers who hosted the Gridiron Victoria Pink Ribbon Round for Breast Cancer Awareness on Saturday 24th October.
In front a huge crowd at Springfield Reserve the Junior Rangers kicked off a triple header against the Berwick Miners, needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Conor Merrigan Turner, who stepped in at quarterback the past couple of weeks continued to excel under center, leading the team to an early lead 22-0 at half time. When Cooper Bentley powered into the end zone to make it 34-0 in the 3rd quarter the game was put well beyond doubt and scores hadn’t changed by the final whistle. PJ Rimene-Pohe was dominant on defensive line whilst Jaxon Tiziani continued an impressive season with multiple sacks and tackles for loss in the shutout.
The Croydon Rangers took out their 5th Senior Championship on Saturday night at the Latrobe City Sports & Entertainment Centre, winning VicBowl XXXI by a score of 16-7 over the Monash Warriors, raising the Maurice MacAllister Henkels Cup. The VicBowl win adds to the silverware gathered at the 1995 GAV Championship, and the 1997, 1998, and 2004 VicBowls.
The Rangers are returning to the Vic Bowl for the first time in 4 years, facing the old enemy the Monash Warriors who are chasing their 4th straight championship.
