With a commanding lead of their final regular season match against the Melbourne Royals, the Rangers turned to their much maligned “Thunder Package” in the latter stages of the game as they looked to kickstart a stagnant offense.
All six offensive lineman were asked to bare the burden of the carrying the football with varied success.
Taylor Gist rumbled for 10 yards and a first down, Jake Twhoig ground out 5 yards, Jake Wilkins and Tim Davies were met with resistance as the defense clued into the innovative new look. Grantlee O’Sullivan got the ball moving with another 5 yard run before the rotund center Sam Weller got behind an epic block by Gist and Wilkins to somehow waddle into the endzone for a touchdown.
