Junior Rangers in Week 4 Action

Another mixed weekend for the Croydon Rangers as the Junior and Women’s seasons continue to head in different directions.

The Ranger ladies crossed Melbourne Saturday night to take on the newest kid on the block, the Melton Wolves under lights.

The home team has been building towards their first season for more than 12 months and would prove a formidable host against the undefeated Rangers.

Undeterred, Croydon quickly stamped their authority on the game as Bliss Love crossed for the first touchdown of the game. Quarterback Vanessa Roman would heed inspiration from Head Coach Jamie Stafford and keep the football for the 2 point conversion.

Soon after, running back Tanya Russell would motor 40 yards for another touchdown and a solid 14-0 lead heading to the main break.

Melton would respond quickly in the 3rd quarter, adding a pair of touchdowns to shave the deficit to only 2 points 14-12 Croydon at 3/4 time.

Ranger women move to 2-0

A mixed result for the Croydon Rangers in round 3 Gridiron Victoria action last weekend.

The Under 19’s squad, fresh from a pair of solid performances compiling a draw and victory the first two weeks went up against the reigning champion Melbourne Uni.

A see-sawing struggle approached half time with only a score in it before Quarterback Tom Veale completed a deep pass to Callum Thompson for the touchdown. The Rangers completed the scoring play one man short on the field and went to the main break trailing 6-8.

An avalanche of injuries ravaged Croydon in the 3rd term as Melbourne Uni took advantage and started piling on the score. Such was the extent of the injuries that Conor Merrigan Turner played both ways all day and even saw offensive lineman Ben Guscott at defensive back.

The young Rangers couldn’t keep up, falling to the champs 44-6 to sit on the cusp of the playoffs at 1-1-1.
